What families spend on youth sports

The Aspen Institute’s 2024 survey of 1,848 youth sports parents found the average family spent $1,016 on their child’s primary sport, 46% more than in 2019. Registration, travel for non-local play, camps and private instruction drove the increase.

The line most budgets leave out

Most of that money trains the body. Very little goes to the mental side: focus, nerves, and bouncing back from mistakes. Two minutes a day is a place to start.

The $0 mental-training line is an illustrative starting point, not measured national mental-training spending. Your total is your estimate for one season; the survey average covers a year in a child’s primary sport.
